Salam,
When I agreed to do the bridal make-up for a client living in Segamat, Johor Darul Takzim, the state located in South Malaysia, where its capital is nearby to Singapore, I absolutely had no idea of how Segamat is. I was only informed about the directions and some whereabouts from my ex-roomate in MCIIUM, Fairuz Matori who's from Tangkak, Johor which is the next town to Segamat. She informed me that basically Segamat is a sleepy town (the biggest hotspot in Segamat apparently is fabric store Jakel). She told me there's more to expect from Muar, another nearby town, so maybe I will head to Muar once my make-up jobs with this client are done.
Actually using the PLUS highway, the only estimated time to Segamat is 3 hours. I left Kuala Lumpur after Maghrib with Ummi (Nana can't join since she had her French language exam) and reached Tangkak exactly 2 hours after being on the road. Then it became quite creepy when I had to go through a long, very very winding road in the dark (luckily there are glow in the dark signboards all the way to guide drivers from swerving into the wrong direction) through a very incredibly vast plantation belongs to Sime Darby from Tangkak to Segamat.
I felt relieved whenever I could use high-beam lights several times when there were no cars from the opposite road. During the drive in the plantation, I got good nagging from my mother for not leaving home earlier, or else we would not end up driving in an unfamiliar area in the dark where many bad things could happen to us. I was annoyed of course because the last thing I needed that time was some negative thought from her, however believe me I was quite scared too and kept reciting Ayat Kursi in my heart. Creepiest was when Ummi was sleeping next to me, I believed till now I heard as though someone continuously flipping coins at the backseat. Damn it if it was real. It was quite fortunate there were many cars behind ours, but I guess my 60 km/hour driving at the winding roads pissed off the regular road users there when they kept speeding to be ahead of me. I regard myself as an experienced and brave driver, but seriously man the roads were super winding and I never saw it in daylight I had some serious difficulty catching up with cars ahead of me.
Alhamdulillah after driving almost 1 hour and a half from Tangkak, we reached our hotel which is in the heart of Segamat town, Neo Pegasus Hotel. It's an OK hotel located among the shoplots but it looks considerably new which is fine for me. My client booked the Standard Room for us which costs her at RM 68 per night inclusive of breakfast. I was initially confused when I saw the rate sign that the Super Standard Room is charged at RM 38, then I realized the word Super means the intensity of the next word which is Standard, so Super Standard doesn't mean better, but very very very Standard, get it? :p
I was quite happy with the hotel, because when I have clients out of KL, I don't expect them to spend a bomb for my accomodation (but I will not argue if they insist haha!) just as long as the hotel is clean, comfortable and nearby to my client's place. So this hotel, which only has 2 storeys but still has a tiny elevator is fine with me. The room has a TV, air-conditioner and shower with heater, great enough for me.
So if any of you by any chance stumble upon the need of staying in Segamat for several days, Neo Pegasus Hotel is recommended because it is clean, comfortable and very affordable for your wallet.
Insha Allah by initiating this new category of Jom Check-In! I will try to share my experiences staying in different hotels, regardless of their numbers of Stars and price-range.
Hope this helps! =)
Our small, windowless room yet comfortable and clean.
Clean bathroom is a must! Fortunately they provided us with one =)
