Salam,
As usual every Saturday night, my family and Tok Ayah's family would gather at Istana Budaya's Laman Santai to enjoy free live music and dance performance. Usually the youngsters would not be very keen on going to Laman Santai since the performers are mostly top singers from the 1960's, 70's, 80's and 90's, however I just enjoy to gather with my family so whatever it is it does not matter. Tok Ayah and Tok Mama they enjoy to go there since it is such a nice ambiance for them to catch up with their old friends especially those from PDRM.
Once in a blue moon, there are also new acts such as Hujan, Nubhan, and other singers and bands who are trying to make it big, so we just go there either to support them or diss them if their performance suck :D Nevertheless the emcee there especially Rosnan is super funny and friendly, the food sold at the stalls is tasty and cheap and I especially enjoy watching all sorts of dance from the Istana Budaya Dancers especially when we can join them for the Joget Lambak session especially when they play the very energetic Joget Malaysia song.
Tonight, it seems just like a normal Laman Santai session when we watched the Portuguese Dance which is synonym with Melaka.
It is a normal night though, just that yesterday was Ummi's birthday where she turned 61. Thus Nana and I we planned to make a small surprise for her at Laman Santai. While rushing back from Mid Valley City, I purchased a cake at Secret Recipe. I asked Nana to get serviettes while she was on the way with Ummi to Laman Santai, it was tad difficult because Ummi kept questioning as a very particular mother of the reason Nana wanted to get the serviettes, Nana just answered lamely it's for my car. (?!) :D
So after informing the emcee, a young crazy-headed guy this time about the surprise, Nana, Idayu, Idayu's little annoying but adorable brother Hakim and I went to my car to get the cake and made ourselves invisible from our families at one of the gazebos. That time too was a tricky moment for us because Tok Mama was so so worried when she noticed that we were not around at their table...adoyai susah betul la!
Simply delicious Chocolate Strawberry Cake. Actually the exterior was just plain, boring Chocolate but then I requested to add Cherries since I love them but then the girl who decorated the cake was being extra helpful and nice she put 'green leaves' on top of my cherries making them looked like..urm..well tomatoes instead.
From time to time we had to show up at our table to decrease Tok Mama's anxiety over her GROWN-UP grandchildren, therefore we asked for the help of one of the cleaner guys there to look over our cake. When the time for the announcement was near, we lit the candles of the cake and it was me who was responsible to walk through the crowd carrying the cake to our table yikes!
After the performance of one new band, the emcee announced that he has a special announcement to make, and then the band started to play the Happy Birthday song and there I walked with all eyes on me and I could felt my knees were trembling a little. Luckily I did not trip :D
Of course Ummi was astonished and was delighted alhamdulillah.
Happy Birthday Puan Azizah Abas! Semoga Panjang Umur Murah Rezeki!
See Tok Mama on the left, always over-emotional on almost anything.
We love you Ummi!
ps* Thank you Abang Cleaner for guarding our cake, it was amusing to watch your delight when we served you with a piece of the cake. =)
