I was contacted by KL Performing Arts Centre (KL Pac)'s Children's Theatre Instructor, Ms. Nala Nantha to replace her as the instructor for 2 weekends since she was attending the Berlin Theatre Festival 2008 in Berlin, Germany of course.

She heard that I like children so after a short interview with her, I instantly got the job and I was ecstatic. I was supposed to tutor a bunch of 2-6 year old children in the class, with the guidance of another replacement instructor, Lawrence. Basically Lawrence can manage to handle the classes by himself as he does for 7-12 year olds classes , it's just that because these classes are for much younger kids so they tend to fear adult men especially the girls. Lawrence doesn't look intimidating at all, but yes he's tall and well-built so they still had to have a female instructor and apparently that's me :)

Ms. Nala would be missing her classes on the first 2 weekends in May, but before that I had to attend some training to let the children be familiar with me, and most importantly for me to know the gist of the classes.
So I went and participated with the class. The kids are adorable! Most of them are from mixed parentage, like expatriates married with locals and some are even the children of expatriates in KL. Many of the locals are Chinese but there are Malays and Indians as well.. yes and some who are Chindians :) All of them are lovely and incredibly funny! :) Yes there are a few grumpy ones from time to time, but then eventually they would love the class in the end.
The 7-12 year old classes; they need not to be instructed to warm up.
Impressively they even do 'The Bridge' and some other yoga movements
Basically I needed to take control of the children, let them not to be out of focus during class. We played games which mainly focused on facial expressions such as happy, sad, angry, scared, surprised etc. We also listened to stories and needed to act out the gestures and expressions mentioned in the story. Like there's this Toy Land story, so I had to lead them with movements of being the toys, and believe me I even taught them the Robot Dance through the tune Satisfaction. :p Not forgetting, we also mimicked animal movements and yup we would usually end the class with the ever popular Hockey Pockey :)

My most favourite part, that after I've attended some of their classes, we would end the class by hugging each other and the kids would tell me "I love you Sue!" :)
I cannot take my eyes off this 'Colgate Kayu Sugi' child talent, you really just wanna keep looking at his beautiful face
