Salam,
Today Nana, Idayu and I were invited by our friend Jo to have a barbeque party at his aunt's house nearby Bukit Bintang. Jo is the friend that we met during the time where my online boutique Abaya Suraya had a stall at the Kelab Darul Ehsan's Ramadhan Bazaar. Jo was helping his dad's stall Kamalinen, selling linen men's shirts of course together with his family. Since our stalls were facing each other, so our families became good friends especially due to the fact we had iftar together and help each other's stalls. So this time, Jo is coming to Kuala Lumpur since his family has moved back to his father's hometown in Ketereh, Kelantan.
Our Chef Jo from Ketereh. Heh.
This Jo fella, who's 20 years old, is an INCREDIBLY HILLARIOUS guy! He's so funny, that we don't mind that he keeps speaking thick Kelantanese dialect with us. Usually we get annoyed when Kelantanese keeps speaking too much of their dialect though they live for so many years in KL, but I guess it's true if you have a great personality, you just be yourself and people will surrender and like you for who you truly are. We would always laugh when we mention Jo's name because there were many times, he cracked lots of jokes and his Kelantan tok tok style really make us laugh all the time. We all could never forget that on the first day of our bazaar, he was facing in front of us, he was staring at my sister Nana, then he took his hand air-grab it towards Nana and put it on his chest ie. his heart EXACTLY like the Fair & Lovely ad where Anne Ngasri acted in it. Just imagine doing that to a stranger that you met on the first day! Hahaha! Nana's face was in shock like she just saw a ghost! If you want to know how it's like to know Jo just recall the character Mika in the Adamaya series, that's how it is and coincidentally he too did the Fair & Lovely thingy. Oh yes, FYI his real name is not Jo anyway, just that he made the name Jo since he was obsessed by Joe Flizzow. Duhhhhh!
Yes so today, we made our way to his aunt's condominium, with the intention to have a nice, decent BBQ party since Jo has a diploma in Culinary Art that we call him Chef Jo sometimes. Huh! So-called Culinary Art graduate! The reality was not as beautiful as we expected.
When we came, Jo was not very prepared it seemed, not like it we totally did not expect that. *sigh* Just imagine who would have a barbeque party in the middle of the afternoon, under the hot, scorching sun? Yes Jo invited us to have it then since he said it was most appropriate since the poolside would be vacant. I mean, OF COURSE! Then when we wanted to light up the barbeque pit, we had trouble lighting it up, because Jo poured COOKING OIL to light it up. Crazy guy, then he used some tool to light it up, and it caused some little explosion there. Typical Jo, though we were annoyed, but we laughed hysterically.
Ok then, when we were quite settled, we manage to cook a few stuff.
Grilled Corn. Idayu brought these. It's nice to grill them and put some butter on them while still hot, tasted real good.
Nana and Idayu. Nana smirking under the heat of the sun, and also annoyed by Jo's incompetency of being a decent host.
Oh have you seen these? Our Grilled Sausages.. yes...
More over-burnt sausages... specialty of the Chef Jo. Seriously though we finished up everything but they undeniably tasted like smoke.
Jo dan Idayu, saat-saat bahagia yang kini hanya menjadi kenangan hahaha.
Jo's mischievous but lovable niece, Dayang Amanda Fatihah.
The photo above is Jo's 5 year old niece. She's so mischievous, naughty but so darn smart and matured when she talks, especially when she talks about her parents. She's the daughter of Jo's late sister, Allahyarham Diana that passed away only before Aidilfitri last year. It was a very overwhelming experience, when we knew her mother that we spent time together during Ramadhan left us in a tragic road accident just days before Eid. Sadder thing was, the previous year, Jo's elder brother also passed away in the previous Eid also in a road accident. So the year we knew their family, was approximately one year that they just recovered from the tragedy. Nobody envisioned the fact that they would be tested again.
It all came down to us on how Great Allah is, because a few days before we ended our Bazaar, Diana kept coming to our stall and purchase a few hijabs for herself. She said that her future husband would like her to wear hijab, and she kept asking for my opinion whether she wears hijab nicely or not, of course my answer was that she wore it like an old-timer to hijab, and that made her ecstatic. That end of Ramadhan, she started to wear hijab unlike the earlier time when we met her when she wore skimpy clothes most of the time. By the way when I mentioned future husband, Amanda is her daughter from her first marriage, she though was the same age like me, married when she was 18 before she divorced a few years later.
Diana's car accident was reported on every newspaper, because she died together with her boyfriend and a friend while the driver was terribly injured, around 4 a.m right after they enjoyed Eel Soup since the foreign friend really wanted to try it. Their car exploded and her body was completely burnt till her family could not recognise her body.
The most touching moment was when her grandmother told us that Amanda did not look scared at all looking at her burnt mother but instead she asked "Is this Mama, why is she black?" then her grandmother said that because she was burnt in the car crash. Then Amanda just said calmly, "It's ok I will pray a lot so Mama will become beautiful again." =')
Yes as many people thought, Diana married early because she wanted to leave Amanda with us. Al-Fatihah. May her soul rest in peace and be blessed by the affection of Allah SWT.
Oh yes coming back to out barbeque party :')
Oh.. just check out our random camwhoring sessions. =)
Yours truly and Jo.
Annoyed, tired, sweaty and famished faces waiting the sausages, chicken and shrimps to be cooked.
Barbequeing, with Jo's super hot aunt Che Ma and his sister Abby.
Jo.
Suraya. =)
Skewing our food.
Nana.
Yes Jo's whacky 17 year old friend, Syahmi.
Ladies. =)
Flaunt it baby! Haha..yes you may think what you think (ok I admit we did too) but Che Ma is a truly great host. =)
One of Che Ma's Kazakh friends' daughter, Ginella. She's cute alright but she's grumpy and not so friendly all the time.
Amanda swimming with one of Che Ma's Kazakh housemates.
Oh yes Che Ma's Iranian and Kazakh friends brought some traditional dishes of theirs, but honestly but no offence, our Malaysian taste buds could not consume the greenish super COLD rice that had the smell of grass and henna. Weird! Ok regardless we like Che Ma and all, but most of the time we were discussing on our curiosity of Che Ma's friends who claimed to be students and some of them were 16 and 17 of age, but duuhh no students live at the more posh area near Bukit Bintang. And to know that they are Kazakh, Uzbek, Iranian and that sort. So yes, Malaysians if you are aware of your surroundings and read the news, you do the math whether they are really students or .... Even Jo agreed with us.
Anyway to sum it up, we had an awesome time! The food was mostly sucked, but the company mattered the most of course =)
